Description
136 rock climbing itineraries
Joan Jover
This guide covers 136 routes in the most significant massifs in Catalonia where rock climbing is practiced. From each place, the author has chosen the most representative climbs, usually in the classical style, which can motivate climbers and help to make the Catalan mountain known —the scope of the guide is the Autonomous Catalonia, the Western Strip and northern Catalonia. The guide is aimed both at those climbers who do not know much about the places presented or the routes described, either because they start in this sport or because they are from outside Catalonia, or those who already have a knowledge of this sport in our country but they want to go deeper into it. As the author of the book puts it, “After all, climbing is also a pretext for traversing the land and understanding it better.”
Joan Jover
Joan Jover i Garcia was born in Barcelona in 1959. By family tradition, he started very early in mountain sports, first in hiking and skiing and later in climbing. After a period of apprenticeship (school massifs of Catalonia, Pyrenees and Picos de Europa), the influence of alpine literature poured him into the high mountains and contact with the Alps, where he has made some of the faces most emblematic north (Olan, Pic Sans Nom, Jorasses, Badile; eiger, Cima Grande, Civetta …). Its sporting maturity is characterized by a series of extra-European outings (Yosemite, Patagonia, Cordillera Blanca, Himalayas, Karakorum, Trollryggen, Logan Mountains, Atlas, Baffin …), winter and solitary ascents (Midi d’Ossau, Balaitús, Vignemale , Noire de Peuterey, Jorasses, Courtes, Triolet …). In 1992 he became a mountain guide (UIAGM), a profession he works full time throughout the year.
